The paper, under exam board AQA, states the choice of one of the 8 choices. While I will be completing under one style, I will also be having an insurance choice to make sure I have something to fall back on.
Option 1; Towns and Cities
"Many photographers and filmmakers have used towns and cities as a location for their work. In the photobook 'Quincy', Carl Andre explored his hometown, observing natural surfaces and architectural structures. Jacques Tati created visual comedy in his film 'Playtime' by focusing on the daily routines of city life. Peter Mitchell imagines how aliens on Mars might view the city of Leeds in his project, 'A New Refutation of the Viking 4 Space Mission'. Investigate the appropriate sources and produce your own response to Towns and Cities.
When it comes to this option, I believe it would be something I can excel in due to my previous abilities in other components, focusing on similar perspectives which align to the idea of towns and cities.

Option 2; Staged or Candid
Photographers can choose to record subjects candidly or in staged settings. Holly Andres often poses models for the camera to create a sense of drama and mystery. In his early documentary photographs Stanley Kubrick often observed people busy in their work environments or relaxing at home amongst their belongings. Thomas Demand has constructed life-size paper recreations of interiors for his photographic compositions. Laura Letinsky recorded the remains of meal times exactly how she found them. Investigate appropriate sources and produce your own response to Staged or Candid.
Personally, I believe I could use this option as something "new" or interesting to follow and create photographical pieces from. Although it's not my insurance main choice, I believe this to be something I could explore and find some passion from.
Definitions
Refutation - Disproving a previously believed statement or theory. In this context, it would mean "a new understanding" in the sense they felt the previous "expedition" was inaccurate.
Candid - An informal style of photography where the photo is taken in an informal setting where the subject(s) do not realise it is being taken.
Documentary - In photography; a chronological picturing of events via photos which portray historical moments or act as documentation for a real-life scene.
Composition - Put simply, the arrangement of pieces in an image, e.g. how the framing is used in composition to improve the image.
Approaches and Techniques
For my photography I believe I will want to take an informal approach of simply walking around with my camera, always ready to take a photo. I believe that I will need to focus on getting candid setups for each photo, utilising high-population areas where people often surround to maximise the amount of photos I can get if I follow option 2. Even with option 1 I will need to be ready to take a variety of photos so I can get as many city-related photos in as possible. However, I might also find it interesting to use a tripod and setup my camera in a fixed position similar to waiting for an event to happen, or the right photo to pop up.
I may use a variety of techniques, like double exposure, the usage of telephoto photography or wide-angle imaging.
